Death Certificate really is a song about prescription drugs. A friend of mine was shacking up in the basement of a Coffee shop in exchange for doing work around the building. He was taking a lot of Adderall but not necessarily in any uniform dosage or on any regular schedule. The basement wasn't finished or anything but it wasn't like he was living in squalor either, just everything was all over the place. One night I walked in and he had taken a pickaxe to the concrete floor and told me he was putting in a bathroom. I don't think it ever got done. Those projects only ever got about halfway.
